Position: House Manager
Rate: Starting $9/hour
Days: Generally, Fri., Sat., & Sun. during main stage performances
Requirements: Must be able to pass First Aid/CPR training, High School graduate, familiarity with theatre business preferred. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
Reports to: Managing Director
The House Manager is responsible for all front of house operations. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
PRE-SHOW
Arrive 1.5 hours prior to show time
Perform any needed exterior maintenance such as shovel and/or de-ice any snow on sidewalks and deck
Dispose of any trash on sidewalk or around building
Unlock front door
Set traffic cones in drop-off zone in front of building
Turn on outside lights (if evening performance) and inside lights including stairways, stair pop lights and under-railings
Check thermostats in house and basement and adjust if needed (pre-cool on hot days, and basement heat in winter)
Check intermission supplies
Check bathroom paper supplies and refill if needed
Scan house for trash and make sure audience left seating section chairs are properly set
Communicate with stage manager to open the house one-half hour prior to show time
Supervise ushers
Check with box office to get an expected audience count, then check quantity of show programs, and make more if needed on copier
Check in ushers, ensure flashlights are operable, advise of any show alerts (gun shots, strobes, actors in aisles, etc.), and length of show
Ensure ushers stuff programs with any inserts
If there is an usher “no show” by one-half hour prior to show time, phone an alternate from the box office substitute list of ushers living in close proximity to Lakeshore
Assist ushers as needed
Liaison with patrons and box office in case of guest issues
Take care of any ticket problems with box office
Assist patrons with ADA accommodations such as side door entry
Enforce no photo/video rule, if needed
If box office line is long, assist with handing out tickets as needed
INTERMISSION
Set up intermission concessions
Check starting balance in bank bag
Coordinate with stage manager and flick basement lights to signal end of intermission
Re-stock concessions and secure cash in safe
POST-INTERMISSION
Clean up intermission and kitchen area and put away supplies
Re-stock bathrooms
Tally attendance in box office
POST-SHOW
Check-in any listening-assist devices returned by patrons, clean device, check battery and replace if needed
Return usher flashlights and badges to box office
Make note of any problems in show log
Coordinate with stage manager to shut down house, ensure all lights are off, appliances are turned off (curling irons, irons, etc.) and all doors locked
OTHER
Attend preview night to become familiar with the show
